CHRISTIANS HAVE MADE THEIR CHOICE

The elections in Ukraine have taken place, and they were on the high-level as international observers noted. Although there was much debate and political insinuations, Christians have expressed solidarity in the absolute performance of God’s will.

"There was an epoch change in Ukraine. In this moment in history we have witnessed the unanimous unity of Christians of different denominations in the fulfillment of God’s will.  God revealed to me as also to many believers throughout Ukraine that the new president of Ukraine will be V. Yanukovych. God’s choice is always the best choice for us, the choice of the future. That’s why more than 3500 Evangelical Protestant Churches of Ukraine and some 800 NGOs led by top management have shown the highest level of trust in V. Yanukovych and played a key role in his sweep victory in the presidential elections ", said V. Shushkevich.

It should be reminded that on February 14 the CEC officially declared Viktor Yanukovych the elected President of Ukraine.

"God has entrusted a unique destiny to the new president: to become the creator of the modern history of Ukraine. We believe that with God’s power and wisdom Ukraine will be brought to the Olympus of fame. It will be worthy of descendants of Christian fathers and patriarchs. We are convinced that V. Yanukovych will protect freedom of religion and contribute to the development of Evangelical Protestant Churches of Ukraine. Today the victory of V. Yanukovych is acknowledged by world leaders and we are full of hope and belief that efficient and effective reforms of the new President will return Ukraine the chance to be a worthy member of the European Community and the Christian world ", said V. Shushkevich, MP Convocation III of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

In addition, Vladimir Shushkevich noted that "the Ukrainian president inherited a terrible legacy of the old regime, but we want to assure V. Yanukovych, that the prevailing forces of the entire Christian world are on his side. We are full of strength and energy, and we express our deep and sincere determination to maintain support and participation in the work for the benefit of Ukraine to follow its national interests and priorities for revival of the country".

After a series of meetings it turned out that the agreement to establish the Spiritual Council of the senior management of the Evangelical Protestant Churches of Ukraine on was reached by the Party of Regions.

"Now surely it is time the higher clergy of Ukraine should concentrate its all arsenal and become the vanguard of the spiritual awakening of Ukraine. Today I have reason to believe that we will have support of Evangelical Protestant Churches of Ukraine from the top leadership. I am firmly convinced that this is a significant progress and a step into the future, where all our prayers, expectations and aspirations will find a legal basis and become the platform of spiritual revival of Ukraine. We are convinced that the international experience of developed countries, in which similar Spiritual councils have been functioning successfully for many centuries, will guarantee our reliable partnership and modern progress. With confidence and hope I am waiting for the hour when we will witness the triumph of eternal values in Ukraine", said V. Shushkevich, authorized coordinator of Evangelical Protestant Churches of Ukraine.

It should be reminded that the inauguration of the President of Ukraine V. Yanukovych was held on 25 February.

Summarizing the events, Vladimir Shushkevich said: "We thank all the Christians, who supported the election of the President of Ukraine V. Yanukovych. God has given us a decisive vote and we made the right choice - in favor of Ukraine’s future and our children’s future. We bless the President of Ukraine V. Yanukovych and look forward to the great changes and the superiority of Christian values. Therefore, we believe that it will happen like Solomon said: "But this is gain for a land in every way: a king committed to cultivated fields." (ESV, Eccl.5: 8)"
